Description
Pictures cannot do justice to the most beautiful region of Switzerland — the one surrounding Lac Léman, or Lake Geneva.
This leisurely cycling tour takes you from fresh water to flatlands, from the foot of the mountains through the vineyards of La Côte, and into medieval villages. From the seat of your bike, you’ll see it all!
The heart of Geneva is, of course, the lake. The pretty Swiss architecture provides a mid-ground backdrop, and the regal mountains simply elevate the majesty of this sophisticated city. But don’t let the towering height of the mountains scare you! You’ll be riding on less-challenging terrain, at a leisurely pace you’ll determine on your own.
Itinerary
From the city to the countryside, with Lac Léman on your left, you will pass through many picturesque villages (Founex, Bossey, Céligny and Signy) as you head towards Nyon or Rolle. Sample true “Swiss” cuisine; with many cafes surrounding the lake; you’ll have an abundance of options to sample the local favorites. Why not try fish, since it’s fresh from the lake?
In the afternoon, you will "roll" onto the ferry at Rolle (or Nyon) and enjoy 360-degree views of the scenery surrounding Lake Geneva. Once across the lake, ride to your hotel in Yvoire.
Today can be spent as you choose, whether you prefer hopping on and off your bike or taking a day off visiting Yvoire. If you ride through the “Lower Chablais” valley of the Rhône-Alpes, you’ll get a glimpse of both “Swiss” and “French” life in one sweep!
You’ll experience amazing views of the Jura Mountains when riding through the beautiful Port de Séchex by the Lake or from the wine-making hilltop village of Ballaison. If you choose to relax and enjoy Yvoire, one of France’s “most beautiful villages,” we highly recommend taking a stroll through the "Garden of Five Senses".
Your GPS will take you through the French villages of Massongy, Ballaison, Loisin and Veigy-Foncenex before leading you into Switzerland and the two-letter village of Gy; each town is full of character and natural beauty. From here, the shore-side ride to Thônex will go by very quickly, so enjoy the last moments of your short escape! Back in Thônex, return your bikes(if you rented them) and enjoy some more time in Geneva on your own schedule.
